The name of this blog is productive mind however, I believe that the mind cannot be productive without the mind being happy. If you think about it, machines and robots the most productive things in the planet earth but that does not mean that us humans should be the same. While machines are made out of cold metal and operate despite anything, the human mind works very differently. Productivity highly relates to happiness and overall well-being of the person. As I have mentioned the importance of well-being countless times on this blog let’s explore the topic of happiness today.
What is happiness?
Happiness is a state of being happy. But what does that mean? Most of us think that being happy means to feel good, but if you think about a person who uses cocaine every day to feel good, you might want to ask the question again. Does feeling good and feeling happy mean one and the same thing? It seems that it is not. Happiness is also not having a million dollars in the bank, as there are loads of people who are rich but feel miserable all the time. So what is happiness? Researchers suggest that happiness is a combination of many things such as a sense of direction in life, how good you feel on day to day basis, having a meaning in your work and relationships, the stability of your life and mood.It’s like an exercise which you have to put in conscious effort in and it can be highly related to being a proactive person as most of the things listed before can be controlled by you on a daily basis. As happiness is one of those things which cannot be seen, touched or sensed, it might be pretty hard to understand how to obtain it. In addition to that, a lot of people set themselves barriers which stop them from being happy.
Barriers to happiness
I have met hundreds of people who have set themselves these invisible barriers which stop them from being happy right now. It is very easy to tell who has set themselves barriers from being happy in the present moment by just listening to their language. Usually, you can hear them saying things like: “I will be happy when..”, “Once I get there I..”, “It’s his fault, not mine, that..”. What all these people have in common is that they postpone their happiness or blame someone else for not being happy. This again leads us to one of my previous articles about proactivity. Which tells us that proactive people know that they are in control of their lives and they know that they should put all of their efforts to the current moment in order to be someone.
Even if you did not relate to the examples above, but you might still feel unhappy, worry not, there are quite a few simple things that you can incorporate into your daily live to become a more happy person.
Secrets of happiness
First thing is self-awareness. You have to be honest with yourself, and understand what makes you happy or unhappy. Try to do what makes you happy and appreciate your uniqueness. Do not be afraid to be different and understand that we are all wired differently. Create goals, build plans and set yourself a direction in life.
If you’ve been unhappy for a long time, it might be quite hard for you to become happy again as it will require you to put in some effort. For example try to make yourself laugh, hang out with people you enjoy spending time with, and give something back to those who make you happy. In fact, try to be the first one to give even before you receive anything, that would make another person happy therefore it would make you happy too.
Look after yourself, exercise and eat healthy foods. As mentioned in the beginning, happiness is an overall state of human, therefore looking after your physical body will help you to make yourself happy. Clean and healthy body helps to awaken your senses which are very important if you want to become a happier person. Stop for a minute and breathe in the air, look at the sunshine, enjoy the walk in nature. All of these small things add up, and make us happy. Happiness comes from the tiniest things in life, so make sure you enjoy them.

If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a month, get married. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. But if you want happiness for a lifetime, help someone else.
