In today’s blog, I would like to share some of the ideas about why mornings are the most important part of our daily life. So let’s get into it!
Every single day of our lives begins the same – waking up in the morning. (Unless you’re raver, batman or working night shifts). And usually, every morning delegates the rest of the day. Have you ever heard saying “I got out of bed on the wrong side“? Meaning that person had a rough morning and now they think that the rest of the day is going to be rough too? Well, what if I told you that there is a way that would make you feel that you always get off on the right side of the bed and you can have a great day every day! As with everything in life, mornings can be prepared for and mastered by using planning. Every human has a limited amount of willpower throughout the day, meaning that we are only capable of making/pushing ourselves to do certain tasks and activities. To lower the usage of your willpower and stress levels you should plan things in advance and turn them into habits! The things you shall plan before going to sleep, the night before, are quite simple. But they do have a huge impact on smoothening your mornings:
Plan what you are going to wear the next day.
As I’ve mentioned before planning helps to relieve frustration, stress and keep your willpower levels up. Have you ever spend 10 minutes of your time deciding which t-shirt to wear? Well, this is exactly what planning helps you to avoid. Just before going to bed, get the clothes you are going to wear the next day. If you know you are going to have some exercise plan what are you going to wear for your exercise time too. Simply lay out all the clothes on a chair or another convenient place for you to grab and put them on without thinking. Plan every piece of clothing you want to wear: hat to socks.
Plan what do you want to achieve the upcoming day.
Having a plan for the day and knowing what you want to do in the upcoming day is another essential thing. Having a plan for the day prepares you to get everything in place, because you know, what you are going to do. Let’s say you know that you want to bake a pie. That leads you to know that you might need some ingredients and that you’ll have to go shopping. Planning really helps to remove the unexpected parts of your day leaving you in more control of your life.
Planning in the evening is a great way to start your morning. But there are other things that are also essential to help you to master your mornings:
Have most of the morning time for yourself
No email, no social media, no phone for the first 2 hours of your morning. This really helps us to concentrate on ourselves more. You need some time for yourself, and morning is a great time to have it.
Exercise is another really important thing to do in the morning. Go for a jog, walk, yoga, stretch or do some simple body exercises. This helps you to become more awake and prepares your physical body for the day.
As you do exercise for your physical body, you need some exercise and clearness for your mind too. Meditation is a great way to become aware of your thoughts which lead us through the day. To learn a little bit more about meditation please check out my previous post here.
Having breakfast is like fueling up the vehicle. You need fuel to get going and be well. Definitely, have healthy breakfast so that it would give you the energy to be the best you can be during the day!
After listing all of these I would like to give you a comparison of two of my mornings.
Example of my morning a year ago:
Check my facebook, instagram, etc.
Realise that I’ve spent 20 minutes doing that.
Jump out of the bed and get into the wardrobe to find the clothing that I want to wear.
Realising that I’m super late now try to rush things and skip breakfast.
Leave my house.
Realise that I’ve forgotten my wallet at home.
Get back home pick up wallet.
Miss the usual train.
Get to work late.
Feel sleepy and energized until lunch time because I did not have my breakfast..
Example of my current perfected morning:
Read daily plan to remind myself of my daily priorities.
Get dressed: sport’s gear, prepared the day before.
Get dressed: work clothes, also laid out the day before.
Leave my house.
Crush the rest of the day!
Prepare and plan for the next morning and day just before going to bed.
As you can see, my mornings were a huge mess which would usually lead me to have a low day too! I would always forget something or become frustrated what to wear (especially finding the matching socks!) Once I have learned and applied the methods I’ve given you here today I’ve become a much happier person. So there you have it, now you know simple steps on how to master your mornings!
ps. One last tip: If you feel like you would like to become better at your mornings I would only recommend to try to improve one little detail at the time and not everything at once. It is very hard to get yourself into this discipline, but if I did it, you can do it too!
